A specialist graduate of the Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University (UPCH), he began his surgical career at the José Casimiro Ulloa Emergency Hospital, building up a solid foundation in general surgery and trauma.

A pioneer in Peru in introducing the programme for major outpatient surgery for the advanced laparoscopic management of gallbladder conditions, reflux, hernias and appendicitis.

- In 2001, he introduced an Outpatient Surgery Programme in A&E in Peru, which involves the laparoscopic management of selected cases of acute unperforated appendicitis, acute cholecystitis without biliary obstruction, etc., on an outpatient basis.
- In 2002, he was the winner of the competition at the 3rd Peruvian Congress of Endoscopic Surgery, organised by the Peruvian Society of Endoscopic Surgery, with his paper “Hand-Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Nephrectomy” in patients with pT2–pT3 renal adenocarcinoma.
