Endoscopic control
Advanced endoscopic follow-up confirms adequate recovery, detects early abnormalities and protects your long-term health.
Follow-up endoscopy
Endoscopic follow-up after your bariatric surgery helps to assess tissue healing and to detect potential complications before they progress.
What are we looking for?
Endoscopy assesses healing and helps with the early detection of early or late complications such as gastric pouch dilation, anastomosis problems, ulcers or gastro-oesophageal reflux.
Ulcers
We detect ulcers early before they cause complications
INFLAMMATION AND REFLUX
We have identified inflammation or irritation that can cause discomfort or reflux
PROBLEMS ON THE STAPLE LINE
We evaluate the healing process and detect potential leaks or fistulae
ANASTOMOTIC PROBLEMS
We detected strictures, dilatations or marginal ulcers

Intraoperative endoscopy
Real-time endoscopic control
Intraoperative endoscopy is a “real-time” check inside the operating theatre: a flexible endoscope is inserted during surgery to view the inside of the stomach and junctions, thereby detecting and immediately correcting leaks, strictures or bleeding, which is especially useful in revision surgeries, where the anatomy is altered by previous surgery.
Benefits of endoscopic monitoring
Pneumatic leak test
Confirm the airtightness of the staple lines / anastomoses
Prevention of stenosis
Identify angulations or narrowing in the new anatomy
Active bleeding control
Help locate and treat intraluminal bleeding
Reservoir calibration
Ensure the appropriate reservoir size for better tolerance
Dr. Dick Manrique performs laparoscopic bariatric surgery alongside intraoperative endoscopy to immediately detect and correct potential problems, thereby reducing complications.
