Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication
It is a minimally invasive procedure that reconstructs the anti-reflux barrier by repairing the oesophageal hiatus and performing a 360º fundoplication.
Long-lasting relief from acid reflux
Nissen fundoplication reinforces the antireflux barrier at the oesophagogastric junction to prevent acid from returning to the stomach.
Strengthens the natural anti-reflux “valve”
In Nissen fundoplication, the upper part of the stomach (fundus) is wrapped 360° around the lower oesophagus to reinforce the oesophagogastric junction and reduce acid reflux.
Weakened sphincter
If the lower oesophageal sphincter does not close properly, acid can rise into the oesophagus and cause heartburn and reflux.
Fundoplication
A complete wrap of the fundus is performed around the distal oesophagus to create a more effective anti-reflux barrier.
Heavy-duty valve
The wrap creates a more competent valve mechanism, which is associated with better reflux control.
Long-term control
Most achieve significant improvement in acidity and reflux, stopping anti-reflux medication.
We assessed your condition before surgery.
Before surgery, various diagnostic tests are carried out to confirm the diagnosis, evaluate the function of the oesophagus and determine whether laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication is the most appropriate treatment for you.
Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy
It allows the evaluation of the oesophagus and stomach, detecting inflammation, Barrett's oesophagus and hiatus hernia.
24-hour pH monitoring
It measures 24-hour acid exposure to confirm gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD).
Oesophageal manometry
Evaluate the function of the oesophagus and the lower oesophageal sphincter before surgery.
barium swallow
Provide images of the oesophagus and help to identify anatomical abnormalities.
Abdominal ultrasound
Collagen production continues for up to three months after the treatment.
